Jinci Temple

πŸ“ Introduction

Jinci Temple is located in Jinci Town, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City. It was built to commemorate Tang Shuyu, the founding lord of the Jin State, and his mother Yi Jiang. Jinci is China's earliest surviving imperial garden and Jin State ancestral temple, combining ancient sacrificial architecture, gardens, sculptures, murals, and stele art into one precious historical and cultural heritage.

πŸ“š Historical Background

The founding date of Jinci is unknown, first recorded in the 'Commentary on the Water Classic' by Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty. The existing buildings are mainly from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The Song Dynasty Holy Mother Hall is the main hall of Jinci and a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture.
